Did you know that questions on gender and sexuality will be asked in the next Census?
For the first time, the 2026 Census will ask everyone aged 16 and over about their gender and sexual orientation. Researchers from the Kirby Institute at UNSW, Sydney want to understand:
- how LGBTQ+ people, and adults who live with and care for LGBTQ+ people, are likely to answer
- whether the Census questions reflect how people describe their gender and sexual identity
- how privacy, disclosure, or who else is in the house might affect what’s recorded on Census night
The survey is anonymous and should take around 10 to 15 minutes to complete.
