PrEP Empowerment Project

Charles Sturt University and NHMRC invite 18- to 25-year-old men who have sex with men (MSM) to participate in our study, the PrEP Empowerment Project!

Why this research matters:

We know that young MSM are struggling to access HIV-PrEP. Our research aims to identify and break down barriers that young gay, bi+ and other MSM face in accessing PrEP and HIV healthcare by surveying, interviewing and co-designing a solution together. The research will also look at general practitioners’ PrEP knowledge, attitudes and practices, identifying any gaps and opportunities for improvement.

Innovative solutions – Tech and peer support:

A key outcome of the project will be the development of a mobile app and a peer navigation program designed to support young men in accessing PrEP more easily and confidently.

Get involved – We need your voice:

Please fill out an Expression of Interest if you are:

  • A gay, bisexual, or other man who has sex with men, aged 18 to 25, or
  • A general practitioner working in Australia.

There are lots of opportunities to get involved and ensure community needs are addressed meaningfully:

  • Join our Research Advisory Committee – paid per meeting, 2 meetings per year.
  • Join an expert panel to design the 2 project surveys – paid per survey.
  • Fill out community surveys – go into a prize draw.
  • Join the Peer Navigation team – various paid opportunities.
  • Join our research team – complete a paid PhD or Honours Project!

Together, we can break down barriers, build better systems, and bring Australia closer to ending HIV transmission.
