Reclaim the Night (RTN) is an annual, international event which campaigns against sexual violence.
Locally, Canberra Rape Crisis Centre (CRCC) has been organising RTN events for many years, where women and their supporters march peacefully on the streets of Canberra to raise awareness of sexual violence.
This year, the event will be broader and more community focused with the inclusion of stalls from a number of community organisations who assist in the fight against sexual violence around the ACT and surrounding regions, including The STOP Campaign, Legal Aid ACT, Toora Women, Beryl Women, Sexual Health & Family Planning and others. The event will also include an address by Dr Marisa Paterson MLA as well as speeches from representatives of What Were You Wearing Australia, EveryMan Australia and Directions Health Services ACT.
RTN Canberra 2023 will be held on Friday 27th October from 5pm - 8pm at Glebe Park, and the theme focus is on ‘Drug and Alcohol Facilitated Sexual Violence’ and when consent is negated
due to intoxication. Data shows that incidents of family, domestic and sexual violence often occur in the context of alcohol and other drug use. CRCC believes that we need to change the perception!
Intoxication is no exception!
To raise awareness of this issue, join CRCC and their community partners, for an evening of inspiring speeches, fun entertainment, BBQ, a charity coffee cart run by FemiliPNG, and a peaceful march around the park.
