Meridian is a incorporated association registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC). As a not-for-profit organisation, Meridian has Deductible Gift Recipient status with the Australian Taxation Office.
Meridian is governed by a board. The board is governed by the Constitution, which formalises the organisation’s governance obligations under the Association Incorporation Act 1991. The organisation is membership based and the membership endorse the appointment of board directors and changes to the Constitution at the Annual General Meeting, or Special General Meetings.
The formal executive positions on Meridian’ board are the President, Vice President and Secretary. Two Meridian board committees have formal delegation to advise and recommend to the board. These committees are the Governance Committee and the Finance, Risk and Audit (FARM) Committee. Both Committees meet routinely before Meridian board meetings to manage the board’s workload and to monitor the organisation’s compliance with the regulatory environment.
Meridian’ Chief Executive Officer is appointed by the board and reports directly to the board at routine board meetings. The CEO has the delegation to manage the organisation’s operations, programs and employment agreements with staff.
Meridian is Canberra’s leading community-controlled organisation taking action to prevent HIV, improve the health and wellbeing of people impacted by HIV and LGBTIQA+ people, and create safe and inclusive communities.
Meridian increases access to HIV and STI prevention, testing, and treatment. It conducts targeted health promotion activities, runs community events, and provides peer-led support services and activities for our communities to support them to look after their sexual health, mental health and wellbeing.

Meridian recognises the need to develop a structured and holistic approach for strengthening our work and relationship with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, especially those who may be impacted by HIV or at risk of HIV. Meridian acknowledges Traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia and recognises the continuing connection to lands, waters and communities. We pay our respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, and Elders both past and present.
By developing a Reconciliation Action Plan, we hope to clearly identify actions and realistic targets detailing steps and priorities that advise on the rights, health and dignity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who are impacted by HIV or at risk of HIV.
